More than 80% of crop production is broadly organic across four agro-ecological zones, with substantial market surplus and considerable scope for processing, storage, logistics and value addition.
Investible opportunities
- Develop value-addition and marketing businesses for organic produce, supported by the State’s organic-farming potential and its geographical proximity to South-East Asian countries.
- Establish food-processing and logistics capacity around six proposed agri-horti networks and four proposed cold-chain clusters, alongside five agro-processing clusters planned in PPP (public-private partnership) mode.
- Process kiwi, orange, apple, pineapple, cardamom, paddy, millet and ginger into juices, preserves, spices, flour, noodles and other shelf-ready products.
- Expand oil-palm cultivation and processing: the State has the second-largest oil-palm area in the North East, with more than 12,000 hectares planted to date against a State target of up to 30,000 hectares by 2026.
- Build on the State’s position as India’s second-largest producer of large cardamom, with packaged spices and cardamom powder as ready value-addition lines.
- Process the State’s bamboo into shoots, incense sticks, charcoal, mats, tiles and plywood, alongside ramie and jute cultivation and processing.
- Build apiculture and planting-material enterprises, including honey, wax, royal jelly, pollen and venom processing; separately the State aims to develop one million quality saplings, with potential for Bio-Conservation Parks, an R&D institute and plant health clinics.

India's wildest, least-explored destination
Known as ‘the Last Shangri-La’, Arunachal Pradesh offers mountains, river valleys, wildlife, monasteries, living tribal cultures and major festivals across fourteen principal tourist circuits.
Investible opportunities
- Develop a premium resort at Mechuka, where the landscape, 6,000-foot elevation and improving access form the core proposition.
- Partner with local homestays through hospitality brands, service standards, booking support and market access while building on existing State assistance.
- Establish a film-production unit or film-city proposition at Pasighat, using its scenery and connectivity to attract productions to Arunachal Pradesh.
- Create wellness and spiritual retreats around the State’s tranquillity, traditions and hospitality, with work-from-home tourism as a complementary longer-stay format.

Arunachal Pradesh holds 40% of India’s total hydropower potential, with more than 58,160 MW identified across eight major river basins and more than 27 projects described as available for immediate investment.
Investible opportunities
- Take up projects from the 188 investible schemes identified across eight river basins, with 27+ listed as available for immediate investment.
- Concentrate large-capacity development in the Siang, Subansiri and Dibang basins, which together carry the greatest proposed capacity.
- Develop small and mini-hydro schemes, drawing on the State’s share of more than 9% of India’s small-hydropower potential.
- Invest in transmission and power-evacuation infrastructure, for which a comprehensive system is under progress, alongside the available distribution network.
- Enter a sector with delivery behind it: commissioned capacity rose from 405 MW in 2015-16 to 1,270 MW in 2022-23, India’s largest project at Lower Subansiri is nearing completion, and the 2,880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project is underway.
- Build on completed river-basin studies and the established State and central hydropower policy frameworks when structuring a project.

26 major tribes and more than 100 sub-tribes sustain distinct textile and craft traditions, supported by natural materials, skilled artisanship and an opportunity to scale a certified organic Eri-silk value chain.
Investible opportunities
- Develop the full organic Eri-silk value chain, from cocoon production through to finished fabrics, apparel and diversified silk products, with organic certification to be developed.
- Establish seed farms for Muga, the golden silk of the North East, to serve the State’s large unfulfilled demand for seed, using its healthy plantations and ideal agro-climatic conditions.
- Scale hand-knotted carpets, MonShugu handmade paper and eight handloom products that already carry a GI (Geographical Indication) tag, the mark that certifies a craft as originating from a specific place, for domestic and export markets.
- Organise cane and bamboo craft production around abundant raw material, skilled artisanship and the opportunity to connect crafts with tourism.
- Build woollen hosiery, power-loom and garment units to meet local demand for school and institutional uniforms that are currently supplied from outside the State.
- Create design studios and production partnerships that combine Arunachal motifs with contemporary design, including linkages with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), the National Institute of Design (NID) and fashion houses.
